Jetblue Passes For Sale!

I have two free flights on Jetblue. Unfortunately we won't be able to use them, so I am selling them to the highest bidder :).
They are award seats so they can't be used on any flight, but if you book in advance it's usually pretty flexible and they are NOT standby, once you book you are confirmed. They have to be booked by July 31st but you can book out until January 4th (I think). They can be used for two people one way or one person round trip and you can check availabilty on their website - just enter your travel details and instead of selecting lowest fare or refundable fare choose award and available flights will show up for $0.

I'm Opening My Own Salon....

...someday. Really, I am. I don't know when, where, or how....but someday I will open a cute little trendy salon/spa and boutique - that is my dream! What should I name it? Will you visit us when it's open?
For now however, I work very part time at a charming downtown salon and I am looking for new (or old) clients to fill my chair. My new schedule allows me to work Tuesday evenings with appointments starting at 5:00 (other days and times available depending on the week).

Where have you been?

I know, I know....it's been too long! I have been busy with a few things: finishing college, quitting a job I loved, beginning a new stressful but wonderful job, moving from the west side back home to the east side of SLC, working on my marriage, Christmas shopping and sewing...just to name a few.

However, I am officially on my first Christmas vacation in years! Literally, I usually worked like crazy every year during the winter break when I was in school - but now I'm actually off work for two whole weeks. Perk of a school teacher I guess, one of two I've discovered so far and the second one starts sometime in June. I have been looking so forward to this break that I was especially disappointed to wake up very sick the first day of it but I am fighting off the cold I have had for a week now and am ready for some serious house cleaning, napping with my puppy, and organizing my classroom for the rest of my vacation. If you're around and up for some guitar hero (my latest addiction) or crafting or after-christmas shopping or a little winter sledding please let me know!

It's good to be back in the land of blogging - sorry I don't have any actual pictures to share...I'll work on that with my amazing Christmas gift. I'm so excited to figure out how to use my new camera!!

Zoo Rendevouz

Thanks to Taylor and Melissa and their wonderful connections, my friends and I were able to attend the Zoo Rendevouz at Hogle Zoo for the second year in a row. Normally I'm not a huge fan of the zoo, but this is the way to do it: you can walk around and see all the animals (including a pregnant elephant) without crowds of naughty children, tons of food from local restaraunts (yummo), unlimited rides on the carousel, palm readers, open bar (I'm not a lush, but I know a few), live entertainment including a band and stilt walking performers (okay that part was a little disturbing) and the very best part it that it is sort of an upscale event...which means people watching is undescribably AMAZING! We had a great time, here are a few shots that capture the evening well.

I am an Ornithologist, I had to have my picture with the owl...he was not interested in being my friend.

I Love My Body

Well, not really but I'm working on it thaks to the Love Your Body 5k run/walk today. It was an all women run through the campus of the U (hello, hills!). Sharlee was nice enough to hold back on her ability and walk a lot of it with me. We had a great time catching up and feeling all sorts of healthy and active, thanks Shar!

I have officially begun my student teaching - and the verdict is....I like it! I thought for sure I would be miserable and scared and intimidated and experiencing all sorts of terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days. I am sure there will be stressful and dissappointing days to follow, but the first two have been enjoyable and less than scary. Here's to 48 more good days; my only hope is that I can learn something every day and gain confidence and experience as a teacher - and of course look great doing it....I love shopping for school clothes!!

...so the girls and I decided it would be a fabulous idea to take a little getaway to the beach! We had a great time with lots of laughs, lots of sun (maybe too much) and lots of reading and extra sleep. My favorite part was for sure riding bikes at the beach - I can't wait to go back for more! I just wanted to give you all a chance to wish me happy 27th birthday...seems old, but I feel good about it....I'm owning my nearly thirty status and feeling pretty confident and grown up. Today is a Sunday birthday, so nothing too exciting - I have already attended church and am going to another ward this afternoon (bring on the blessings), I hope to get in a nap and a delicious meal at some point but that is the extent of my plans. However, I will keep you posted on this weeks festivities - August is pretty much all about me :)

I'm pretty sure my 5th birthday (pictured above) created my obsession with my day...I got a 'My Little Pony' playhouse and I was so mad that both of my sisters got a pony as well - I knew it would be nice that I could play with them and not share my things....but it was MY birthday after all and I am pretty sure I deserved all the spotlight, attention and gifts....

This is Natalie modeling my latest attempt at an apron that I made for my grandma. I am totally in shock...and still can't believe it's real. My aunt and uncle who have been incredibly generous and nice to me the past few months (well always really, but especially good to me lately) actually gave me a car! It was a total surprise and it even had a bow on it when I got it. I am so excited and so grateful and totally wish I would have looked cuter yesterday for my photo shoot with my new Honda CR-V.
The question now is how do I say thanks for a CAR?? A cute little thank you card and a pound of chocolates just doesn't quite seem sufficient....any suggestions?

I left my heart in Logan, Utah

I love Logan...and since I moved from there I have hardly been back for a visit which makes me sad. I would seriously consider moving back there if I had the chance. Last weekend Nick was driving up to volunteer at a bike tour so I tagged along and enjoyed the day in Cache Valley. I went to the Logan Temple which is by far my favorite - I was so excited to spend a couple of hours there all by myself, it was really amazing; I always love the temple, but I felt extra special in the gorgeous Logan temple. Then I was able to stop by a wedding reception for a great friend of mine from hair school - I love her and am so happy for her. Their wedding was so cute and in the middle of NOWHERE on her grandpa's farm in Clarkston....totally made me wish I lived in a small town with a horse and a tractor of my own.

We also got to stop and see Little Tenesey Leigh in Brigham City on our way up...she is so freaking adorable and even if she might have pooped on me a tiny bit, I still love her and can't wait to see her again! By the way, she never cried while we were there until I decided to take a quick picture...she was a really happy, mellow baby and so spoiled with clothes and toys and accessories...lucky thing!

The Biggest Loser SLC official weigh in took place tonight and I'm proud to say I was victorious! I still have a ways to go toward my goal, but since our contest started I lost 22 pounds and 15 total inches. I am happy, hopefully it will keep me motivated for the summer to help me shape up. As for the cash money prize - I will be paying for a haircut and paying off a credit card...boring but another great goal! I'll update with photos from the evening asap.

I was able to go to Boise this weekend for a quick little visit to my sweet neice Valerie who turned TWO on Thursday. It was a great time with lots of mini cupcakes to tempt me and lots of love from my favorite neice who finally learned my name and warmed up to me for the first time! It was a great little getaway and I was lucky enough to see most of my family and little Valerie was lucky enough to get spoiled like crazy with more attention than she could handle.

Okay, there are benefits to working my low paying less than exciting job. That would be the ability to go to San Diego for dinner and shopping and good times with a couple of friends on a whim....which is just what Heather and Nick and I decided to do last weekend.

Thank you to Jetblue for flying us down in style, thanks to Heavy for the entertainment and perfume samplesthanks to Nicky for the laughs and new ringtone - oh and thank you to Bishop Miller for the luxurious place to rest our weary heads. The only thing to report would be the fact that we ate too much and shopped just enough, enjoy the pictures which document the occasion.

I should mention that Jetblue also flew me to Las Vegas and to Disneyland in the past month, at least high fuel costs make standby travel more accessible....there were no pictures worth sharing from either of those trips, but memories were made in my heart!

My mom is pretty much the most amazing person I know. I have and should learn a lot from her about what's important in life and how to treat other people. I don't get to see her on Mother's Day this year, but I will be wishing I was home with her!

Why I love my Mom...she has EIGHT kids - and I really like most of them :)....she loves my dad....she can make anything....she is an amazing nurse....she works harder than anyone....she talks to me every day and never complains when I need to vent....people always mistake her for my sister....she is funny and smart and talented....she thinks I'm funny, and smart, and talented (all debatable)....she always goes to church....she listens and makes my concerns feel important....she supports me in whatever I do and always encourages me to do better....she is very beautiful....she always stood up for me in school, made sure I had the best teachers, and let me miss lots of class in high school....she made me want to go to college....her kids are everything to her and I know she would do anything for us....she makes the best taco soup and cinnamon rolls....she is always happy even if she is tired and worried and stressed, she's still positive....she always shares her treats....she always made me do my hair before going to school....she cleans up after everyone....she always has a purse and car full of coupons and junk which seems to come in handy all too often....she is the best.

Happy Mother's Day, Mom!! I miss you, let's go back to Florida.

Florida Trip....and NYC Bonus

Okay, we're back! Florida was amazing and sunny and beautiful. We had a really relaxing and great time with only minor sunburning and navigation issues. I did enjoy a fabulous (and quite expensive) massage...I felt very spoiled; now I need a pedicure though, after walking on the beach my toes are looking pretty sad.

Coming home our flights were looking pretty full in the afternoon (hazards of flying standby) so we decided to try for an early morning flight to New York City and spend the day there before our late night flight back to Utah. It was so fun to see the city in the spring time - it was perfect weather for strolling in Central Park and doing a little shopping. I was nervous about being the 'tour guide' since both times I've been previously I had other experienced travelers, but it turned out okay - I impressed my Mom and Angela with my limited subway knowledge and managed to get us safely to some great sites and back to the airport in time to make our flight home!

C's Get Degrees!!

So, my grades were posted for Spring Semester today (a day early even...miracle) and I officially recieved my lowest GPA of my educational history. I don't even care! In fact, I'm very proud of my high C average considering the circumstances of my life the past few months; it's quite seriously amazing that I passed at all. I took some of the hardest classes ever and am so happy I was successful this semester - in January I never thought this day would be here...Evolution, Plant Physiology and Invertebrate Zoology sounded way to intense and time consuming. Thanks to medication, friends, therapy, and forgiving professors, I made it through my final semester. I am technically not a college graduate until I finish my student teaching this Fall, but this is one phase of college behind me for good (I hope)!!

Congratulatory cards, flowers, gift cards, or other surprises can be arranged through my personal assistant and life coach, Leslie Ann.

Oh, and for the record: I did get three As, two Bs and two Cs...so it wasn't that bad afterall. I wish I still got money for every A; having two ridiculously smart sisters killed that deal in my house real fast!

Florida...here we come!!

So my brother in law and I surprised my sister, Angela, with a trip to Florida for her birthday last week - and we leave tomorrow!! It's just a girls trip with Mom, Angela, and me...we are quite excited but we will miss Kimberly :(

Thank heavens for flight benefits so I can even afford such a luxury. I plan to lounge around on the beach with a book and get pampered in the hotel spa as much as possible...which may be limited because Angela already has an itinerary in mind that will keep us busy busy - I love having someone to travel with and plan all the details, I would be so lazy on vacation if I went alone! We will be staying at an amazing resort right in Sunny Isles Beach...pray for good weather, safe travel, and a great tan for me and maybe I'll bring you home a sea shell or a fridge magnet.

5k...10k...half MARATHON???

We did it! Leslie, Joe, Dallin and I ran the Salt Lake City 5K last weekend. It was a success....and by success I mean we finished. I will admit to being last place out of our friends, but that just means I will get to improve the most :)

Actually, I really enjoyed it. I really had to push myself and it was a great experience, I know it's not really that far (3.1 miles) but for a novice runner like myself it's a great start. The goal is to run another one in May and beat our time by at least four minutes (I came in at an embarrassing forty one minutes this time). We actually found a schedule online to train for a 10K and we are hoping to be ready by the fourth of July so we can run in the Freedom Festival race.

Here's the drill for week #1: Monday - run 15 minutes (we did it, plus walked a half a mile after), Tuesday - run/walk 2 miles, Wednesday - off, Thursday - run/walk 15 minutes, Friday - off, Saturday - run/walk 30 minutes, Sunday - off. (http://www.marathonrookie.com/10k-training.html) It starts out pretty slow and builds on that each week...wish us luck on our goal, we want to do a half marathon in August or September. Dear Stacy and Clinton:

I am still waiting. I know you are lurking around every corner watching me. I purposely dress in my worst, last season, two sizes too small clothes in hopes that your secret cameras are watching. I do have nightmares about the 360 degree mirror...can we get that over with so I can move on?? I am ready to buy some new clothes considering my upcoming life changes (college graduation, and other adjustments not to be mentioned here - I'll save that for the show) but, I can't get started without my 'rules' and the drama and humiliation of all my clothes being thrown away. Please hurry, things can't get much worse - trust me the transformation will be amazing already. I won't put up a fight, unless you like that or need it for the whole show biz thing...then I will hate you and pout for the first half of my stay in NYC. By the end we'll be best friends again though, don't even worry!

What I Learned From YOU!

So...this could be a long one!

Yesterday my dear friend who shall remain anonymous told me that if she dies she wants me to know that I taught her two things: 1.there is no such thing as too much hairspray and 2.more blush is always better. While I am thankful to have passed such wise advice on to her and I can't think of anything more useful, I do hope that before she dies I can contribute a lesson or memory of more significance and value. That is my new goal for 2008.

This conversation we had inspired a blog for me. Here are two things I will remember about or learned from a few of my friends that I think they should know before I die or in case they are abducted by aliens and I never see them again!

Mama: 1. don't go to church without your hair done and 2. work hard and be friends with the boss.

Angela: 1. reading makes you smart and 2. college makes you smart too, but it's not as fun and inexpensive as reading.

Kimberly: 1. candy for every meal is healthy and 2. make the man cook.

Leslie: 1. shopping = therapy and 2. leave a chair in the bathroom.

Kjirsten: 1. color coordinated closets are best and 2. Marlin knows everything.

Valerie: 1. spend your whole paycheck the day you get it and 2. don't settle

Sesh: 1. don't cheat and 2. listerine is never a bad decision.

Sharlee: 1. workout! and 2. plus size models are beautiful.

Cindy: 1. being single is great and 2. always ask for and offer advice to fellow shoppers even if they are strangers.

Glen: 1. don't speed through Mantua and 2. v's are cool.

Lance: 1. pay the bills on time and 2. sleep in whenever possible and don't feel guilty about it.

You may remember that I'm studying to be a secondary Biology teacher, this thought scares me on a regular basis. Especially when I realize that I'm not doing that well in my classes right now and I have possibly the WORST study habits ever for a college student and really always have. Anyhow, I figure I'll just have to relearn everything I teach my students each year because I will no doubt forget anything and everything I have learned in college not to mention high school! Well, I took an online test to see if I could pass eighth grade science today. To be completely honest, it was not easy. I mean above average is good, but that doesn't say much for someone who wants to teach the subject to uninterested adolescents... is this a bad sign? Should I reconsider and go back to doing hair or waiting tables or selling my plasma?? I guess I'll keep plugging along, B- is actually a whole letter grade higher than my current aspirations for a final grade in all classes this semester; don't tell my teachers :).

So I realize the need to blog, but I have not felt like it for weeks...don't worry, I'll get back on the ball soon. In the meantime, I will post two of my most recent Girls' Night pictures for your enjoyment...

First is the 'Idaho Girls' we try to get together about once a month and have some unhealthy food followed by hours of catch up gossip and chit chat. It is so fun because we have all known each other for so long and have tons of the same memories and experiences from home. I am thankful for these girls in my life...they are some of my longest and closest friends! None of them are in the blogging world, but I am working on convincing them all to get with it so I can add a few more links to my list :) We wish that some other girls from home would make a trip to Utah for a fabulous girls weekend...it could be a hit, think about it (this means you...Lindsay, Mary, Kristen, Jenny, Bethy...we miss you all!!)

I don't have a name for the next group of girls...but 'other' sounds a little harsh. I'll call them my 'Utah Friends' ...they are equally as great as the gals from home and I see them more often! We try to do a weekly lunch but it doesn't always happen. In some form or another be it birthday or holiday or craft day or biggest loser party or american idol party or any reality tv / award show party or any excuse to get together works for us and thank goodness that happens frequently! This picture is from our most recent night which consisted of Mimi's Cafe, brownies and ice cream, and lots of laughs...no television but plenty of blog spying! It was a hit, thanks girls!

It's officially SPRING BREAK 2008 for me!! I think I'm too old for spring breaks, but I won't complain one bit - I love an excuse to miss school and this time it's legal. However, it's not a real spring break...we only get Wednesday through Friday and I have two homework assignments, oh well. You may be wondering what I'll be doing with my time off?? A cruise maybe or Disneyland or even a road trip home to Idaho??.... Well, actually nothing exciting on this weeks agenda! I do have a few things to keep me busy, but I'll be laying low at home - sleeping in, catching up on a few errands, reading celebrity magazines and maybe making time to hang out with you! I hope so, just call I'll see if I can work you in :)

Hollywood...here I come!

So I was chatting with Ryan (as in Paige and Ryan) this past weekend and he reminded me of a good memory. During the time I lived with Paige (and Les and Nat) at Turnberry Apartments in Holladay...something made me think it would be hilarious to dress up and perform as if I were trying out for American Idol. I think the original idea involved the other roommates doing the same thing, but their auditions never actually happened - I guess the competition (me) was too intimidating. Poor Ryan was a 'judge' for this evenings events, and it happened to be one of the first times I had met him - it's a wonder he would still be willing to associate with me at all considering my first impression...yikes! Anyhow, I thought these pictures could be good for a laugh, even if it is at my own unstable expense :) I don't remember the song I sang, but I hope for Nick's sake it was Cher - or for Taylor it could have been 'Big Spender'...who remembers the voice when the look is so great!?
My sister Angela has threatened to post embarrassing pictures of me on her blog as a payback for a darling one (see #8) I used of her once upon a time...it doesn't get worse than this for me, so I guess I beat her to it!

5 things on my list to do today:
1. Study Evolution (this makes the list most days but rarely actually happens)
2. Teach my 'pickle dissection' lesson at school. It was a hit!
3. Isolate the proteins of Fremyella Diplosiphon using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. I sound so educated, but the truth is I had no idea what I was doing in Botany this morning...I'm praying for a C- in this class, it wouldn't kill you to pray that I pass too. It's for a good cause.
4. Hang out with Heather - didn't actually happen due to upcoming test (refer to #1) and my severe procrastination, unpreparedness and need to focus tonight. You can tell I'm doing great so far. Sorry Heavs, soon I hope :)
5. Go to dinner with my aunt, she spoils me. I'm not complaining.

5 snacks I enjoy:
1. Ice cream. The good stuff, like Ben and Jerry's or Cold Stone, actually my favorite is the carmel shake from Arctic Circle..yummo!
2. Pomegranates. Especially when Kjirsten is around to pull all the seeds out like she does, one of the many reasons I love her - so talented.
3. Anything sounds good right now considering I'm dieting - why does the sound of that word make me hungrier?? I will be the biggest loser.
4. Brownies -Nick, are you on this yet?
5. Cinnamon rolls, only the homemade kind - with lots of frosting (Jenny you're crazy!) and a glass of skim milk please.

1. New York - Christmas time 2006 and 2007, loved it!
2. Disneyland - too many times to count, my annual pass expires in Sep 2008 but I'm already sick of it.
3. Mexico - only the really classy parts like Ensenada, Tijuana, and Rosarita Beach. Love the memories!
4. England - amazing, I understood more of the language in Mexico, and it rained every day...but it was a great time sleeping on the floors of Jennifer's dorm room and wandering the streets of London!
5. Chicago. Been there slash lived there, it's a fuzzy line :) Beautiful city, I would move there but I'm scared of their winters.

What would I do if I were suddenly made a Billionaire:
Buy a house, buy my parents a house, buy myself another house somewhere tropical, go on vacation all over the world, pay Oprah to be my friend - or at least go to her show, take my mom to Hawaii, have someone do my hair/makeup every day, shop all day every day and eat out more than I do now! What a life, I'll count on this in case the whole teacher thing doesn't work out for me.

5 jobs I've had:
1. Big J's. I loved it! What a grease pit, but so many friends and memories from that joint - and so much free food :) When I quit I threw my shoes on the roof - can't remember why, I hope they're still there.
2. Rexburg Phone Center. What a joke, they let me be a 'supervisor' whatever that means..ha ha. But I loved it too, more friends and plenty of cute boys to check out constantly since we hired every desperate college kid in Rexburg at least once.
3. X.Salon. (sick) and Hairmasters (if you can call it working :))
4. Mimi's Cafe. I loved singing happy birthday to people - mi mi mi mi mi.....
5. Jetblue. Can't beat flying free, working at home, and getting paid minimum wage. (okay, not really minimum but it should be illegal how small my paychecks are)

5 Pet Peeves I have:
1. When people blow their nose in public. Disgusting! Go to the bathroom or at least out of earshot, I don't want to know what's going on in your sinuses.
2. Apartments/homes built in the 1970s-1980s that did not put light fixtures in the ceilings, seems like I've had the opportunity to rent several such places and have been consistently annoyed at this. Lamps suck. Thank heavens for Miss Kjirsten again who could install fixtures for me at one point.
3. Men who wear necklaces, actually any jewelery other than a wedding ring and maybe a watch, but especially necklaces - those gross shell ones, ew! Sorry if this applies to you/your husband/your best friend, I still love you, but hate the accessories.
4. Waking up early when I could really sleep in. Shame.
5. Lying.

5 Things you didn't know about me:
1. I love CMT, GAC, and QVC. Okay, that's no secret, but I do love those channels and watch them regularly and did aspire to actually be a host/sales person on QVC...I made a practice audition tape once, I hope I burned it!
2. I am afraid of the dark. I always sleep with a hall light on if I'm alone.
3. There is currently a crib set up in my bedroom. And I am not a mother nor am I pregnant.
4. I hate my feet. They are very flat (no arches at all) which is painful and limits my shoe selection - or should according to my doctor. And they are way too big - even dieting won't fix that! The shoes are always so cute on display (size 6) then they bring out the enlarged version for me to try on (size 9.5) and suddenly they are just awkward and annoying. I hate it. I have found that freshly polished toes make me feel slightly better about this lifelong curse, but only temporarily.
5. I love greeting cards. I used to hate them, then my first roommate in college had a dad who worked for Hallmark and she had an endless supply of cards, I miss her. I like to browse the card aisle in any store and buy them for no reason - I'll use it someday. I even love regular stationery, by regular I mean cute, monogrammed, or special blank notes with matching envelopes I can send to my loved ones or use for a birthday/thankyou/getwell/missyou card when I'm in a jam. I think I love to look at them and give them because I love to receive them even more and I figure what goes around comes around, right? I hope so.

Empire Records...open 'till midnight

So, my dad really likes to shop at Deseret Industries (a trait he did not pass on to me) and garage sales and the like. He is always on the look out for a treasure or a great deal! Apparently on a recent hunt he found what he told my mom is "Suzie's favorite CD" well, I don't know about that, but the soundtrack to the 1995 movie Empire Records has been playing in my car all day bringing back some fond memories of high school!! I love Warren...the SHOPLIFTER :) Thanks for thinking of me, Dad - it's my new/old favorite!

Field Trip Anyone??

So, my parents are coming to town tomorrow to see a doctor. While they are doing that I volunteered to skip class (I know, I'm a saint!) and entertain their kids.

I think we'll do the science center at Discovery Gateway or maybe the aquarium in Sandy..or maybe just the library - I don't know. The fun starts tomorrow between two and three in the afternoon, if you want to come and bring your own children or just to laugh at my sisters' crazy antics, you are welcome. Or if you have ideas of what I can do to entertain two spoiled five year olds...let me know. Sorry for the short notice.

Biggest Loser.

Hi. My friends are hosting The Biggest Loser - SLC. We kicked it off last weekend with a not so public weigh-in party. I have an advantage because I have more to lose (sad but true) than most other participants :) I am posting this cute picture of me and Baby Eva (Clay and Ashley's darling little one) as my before piucture - the contest lasts ten weeks, I'll post an after picture which is hopefully cuter and smaller...and in spandex if you're lucky! The winner (me) gets cash money - entry fee of $15 per person. If you still want to sign up and think you can out-lose me, you should email Leslie (or just post a comment here and I can get you the details).

We are also wanting to run a 5k in April. I guess 'training' for that will give me a good chance to lose a few lbs for the contest. Maybe I'll take a walk today - another way to avoid the dreaded homework.

By the way, I am giving up my beloved Oh's Cereal for the ten weeks and replacing it with Kashi Go Lean. That is how serious I am people! Ha Ha.

So, I wanted to create a blog that is just Suzie since I only write about myself anyway and I don't really feel like sharing anymore...so, here it is. I'm sure you'll love it :) however, I don't promise to post often or be at all entertaining.
About me: I live in Salt Lake City but grew up in small town wonderful Idaho, I go to Utah Valley University and will soon be a secondary biology teacher (scary!), I work for Jetblue Airways and love it, I love to travel and shop, I like to do hair when I feel like it, I love getting pedicures and eating out, I have a huge family and they are crazy and fun in all the worst and best ways, I have tons of great friends and consider myself very very lucky in that department...but the only people who read this probably already knew all that!
